Tearfund report hours of continuous rain unleashed flooding which left tens of thousands of people homeless on the island of Mindanao, with the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan particularly badly affected in the Philippines.  Across the Ocean flooding affected 5,000 people near the Angolan border with the Democractic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Tearfund are inviting Pembrokeshire supporters to a South Wales Baptist Church who will host Ethiopian church representatives on the 25th January when they visit the UK.  The Ethiopian  Leaders will be bringing a message of community transformation, a vision they share with Tearfund. The Christian relief agency works along side churches worldwide to fight poverty through joint community development initiatives.

. Fair trade standards ensure workers are paid legal minimum wage rates to enable them to provide the basic necessities for their families. The community have established a health care scheme, made possible by the Fairtrade premium that is paid on every football they produce. In the run up to Fairtrade Fornight we will be sharing the individual stories of workers involved in the production of a Fun Football to demonstrate how fairtrade premiums really do make a difference to lives on a personal level.

Take A Step This Fairtrade Fortnight
Fair Trade Wales Voluntary School's Speaker and Tearfund Media officer, Sharron Hardwick is encouraging Pembrokeshire to Take A Step for Fairtrade in 2012.  Fairtrade Fortnight (27 February - 11 March 2012) kicks off a whole year of events to take Fairtrade further

Tenby Juniors Join Fairtrade Football Campaign
Tenby Juniors kicked off keen support of Fairtrade football, joining two other schools in the county, with Sharron Stokieshazer Hardwick's Fair Trade
in Football Campaign.

Julie visited Tavernspite's link School in Bububu, Stone Town; with an astounding 5,000 5-14 year old pupils. Tavernspite School and PTA enjoyed Julie's photographs, gaining insight into Bububu School life. They saw a Bububu girl dressed in Welsh costume and some Tavernspite inspired fun activities including: blowing bubbles, which excited, but scared some pupils; and pupil's flying kites donated by Tavernspite's PTA.

Tearfund Seek Pembrokeshire Support For Sahel
Christian relief and development agency, Tearfund are asking for local support as people in the Sahel region of West Africa face a hunger crisis.  UN and governments estimate that more than 13 million people in Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali and Chad are at risk of serious food shortages.
