This is my first attempt of making a traditional Piche Evaporimeter
I am using a glass tube this tube started life as a Fluorescent light tube 525 millimetres tube diameter 14mm
I cut off both ends using a dremel cutting disc then I hand ground the ends of the tube with some wet and dry
For the top I used a small plastic lid , then drilled a small hole in the top then threaded some wire through to make a loop
filled the Lid with hot melt glue and pushed the tube in place
the bottom where the blotting paper circle will be fixed I used a plastic lid off a small tub
,I cutout the centre and glued this to the other end to form a platform , the holding clip is made from a small plastic tube
with a small bar this is to hold the rubber bands
Update 27/01/2010 Glass tube has been replaced with a Perspex tube, with a new scale worked out from the volume of water
1/ first fill the tube with distilled water
2/ place filterpaper between filter holder
3/turned the tube upside down so the filter becomes moist position position the tube , to hang from a fixed hook
4/ make sure the paper filter is moist, slide down plastic marker 1 to the top of the water this is where you will measure from
After 24 hours slide plastic marker 2 to the water level using digital calipers measure between the two markers
This will give you the amount evaporation over 24 hours
